This unit develops students' ability to think independently and allow students to build upon and further develop and apply their creativity,skills and knowledge gained from prior studies. The students will utilize case studies of building design projects to look insight into the process by which architects work both individually and collaboratively to put disciplinary knowledge and expertise into practice. Cases will introduce a broad range of issues including design process, human factors, context, site, environment, culture, diversity, social justice, legal and regulatory issues, accessibility, technologies, materiality, sustainability, design disciplines, careers, and collaboration. The aims of the design project are ·To demonstrate current understanding of terms, approaches that architects employ in designing the human environment ·To enable the student to work autonomously on a sustained piece of work appropriate to the programme being studied ·To develop student's ability to fully manage a project whilst synthesizing ideas or information to generate novel solutions ·To achieve a body of work or practice that is coherent and resolved. Specific objectives of the project are ·To demonstrate an ability to select, critically evaluate and apply relevant areas scholarship to the design of an architectural design project. ·To enable the student to choose a project of interest from a predefined set generated by members of academic staff, or negotiate a suitable topic individually ·To be able to identify the possibility of new concepts within existing knowledge frameworks and approaches ·To enable the student to work within the set specification to satisfy the academic and/or industry requirements ·To enable the student to manage a sustained piece of work and monitor progress, while adhering to an overall academic timescale ·To allow the student to reflect on their performance in delivering a project on time and meeting the deadlines ·To enable the student to disseminate the results of their work to a wider audience, using appropriate academic and professional conventions ·To recognize how architectural design process affects or is affected by political, legal, social, cultural, economic and ethical dimensions ·To enable the student to conduct research into a specified area within the scope of study without digressing from agreed/self-set objectives. <`span>
