Geotechnical Engineering is the most important part of any construction projects as it focuses on the section of a building project that is in contact with ground. A solid foundation, taking into account the ground on which it is built, is essential. Special care and quality control of foundation is required in construction as repair of a weak foundation is not easy or inexpensive matter. This unit gives students the knowledge of the ways in which understanding of geotechnical and soil mechanics to be applied in the design of shallow and deep foundations, and how the necessary information is obtained in practice.

This unit equips students with skills to be able to identify the machine equipment, electric equipment, fire extinguishing system and elevator facilities. It will cover water-supply (potable and other) installation, hot water-supply installation, waste and vent system, waste purification system, gas system, heating system, air conditioning equipment and refrigeration equipment.Students will examine electrical and mechanical systems of buildings and apply their knowledge to the requirements of the case studies..

This module gives an analysis and design of pre-stressed concrete flexural members; pre and post-tensioned construction, allowable stress, strength evaluation; design for bending moments and shear; evaluation of serviceability requirements; design of simple bridges. It covers principles of pre-stressed concrete, importance of structural advantages, design and analyze statically determinate, composite and statically indeterminate pre-stressed concrete structures, potential developments in new materials for pre-stressed concrete and the reasons for their adoption.

This module gives an understanding of construction estimates from point of contractor. The construction estimators require an understanding of the construction process, technology, business and relationship with the industry. The main aim is to give necessary skills to work as  estimators in a building or construction firm.
